About Me
A little about me…
My name is Megan Williams and I am 22-years-old. I live in Claremont, NC with my mom and dad. I have a dog, Maggie, who is 13-years-old. She is a miniature dachshund and is the most lovable dog in the world
. I have a boyfriend, Eric, whom I’ve dated for three years. He is my companion and my soul mate. I’ve never met someone like him. He makes me happy and I hope to grow old with him. I want to be a teacher and change the lives of others. I want to be that teacher that students remember forever. After graduating from Appalachian I plan to obtain a Master’s Degree in Language and Literacy.
So here is what I like…
I like to fish. I’ve been a fisher-woman since I was old enough to hold a rod. Even when I was too little to hold the rod, my dad would help me reel in my fish. When I was five, my dad bought me my first fishing rod. It was not one of those little kid rods with Barbie on it, it was a Zebco 33, the best rod in the world. That was the best present I could have ever gotten. I used that rod until it would no longer work. It was a “push button” rod and it was the greatest rod ever. I still use a “push button” reel even though most people have converted to the open face reel. When I began fishing, a lot of the enjoyment I got came from getting to spend time with my dad and doing something we both enjoyed doing. Sometimes dad would let me play “hooky” from school and we would go fishing at Lake Norman. Fishing has to be one of my favorite past-times. I enjoy fishing because it can be relaxing at times, and very intense at others. In order to catfish, you have to be very patient. However, ocean fishing is much different. You must be ready at all times for the bite. I like to fish with real bait; not that fake imitation stuff. I love feeling the tug of a fish against the reel of my rod. Next year I plan to go gulf fishing for the first time with my dad and boyfriend. Below are some pictures of me fishing. The first picture is me fishing when I was two. The next picture is me on one of my catfishing adventures, and the last one is my niece fishing for the first time.
I like animals. I am a HUGE animal lover. I have loved animals since I knew what one was. My mom likes to tell the story about when I was three and got mad at her for killing a fly. When she asked me why I was so mad I replied, “Because flies are God’s ‘critures’ too”. I love all sorts of different animals. I even love the stinky ones. My boyfriend lives on a farm where him and his family raise cows. I love to go with him to feed them in the winter. I always try to get them to eat hay from my hands, but usually they are scared of me and won’t come anywhere near me. However, there is one cow, who I call “cow number 3″ because that is her tag number, who will let me pet her. She will lick my hands and sometimes I feed her apples. I have named everyone of her babies: Rusty, Bandit, and Harry. I love them like pets and get really emotional when its time to take them to the cattle sale.
As I mentioned earlier, I have a dog, Maggie, who is the best dog in the world. She is so sweet and wouldn’t hurt a flea or fly
. We are two peas in a pod. She is spoiled very much by her mommy
. I have had a variety of pets in my lifetime ranging from hamsters, hermit crabs, fish, dogs, and birds. The pictures below are some of the cutest animal friends that I have. The two ducks, Hansel and Gretel, live on a pond near my house. My friend bought them from Tractor Supply and raised them so she could put them in her pond. They were just babies here. We had so much fun with them, until one pooped on me. They poop all the time!! The next picture is a miniature goat that I fell absolutely in love with. I wanted to buy him so bad, but Eric said we didn’t have anywhere to put him. The next picture is a deer that my boyfriend and I saved and raised. At first we named the deer Doreen because we thought it was a female, only to find out months later she was a he. So we named him Coach Buck. The last picture is one of my favorites. This is Rusty, Number three cow’s very first baby. This picture was taken in 2007, and we sold him in 2008
.
I like Jeff Gordon. Okay, so I have loved Jeff Gordon since I was 5-years-old. When I was little, my dad would spend every Sunday afternoon watching racing. While watching a race one day, he asked me who I was pulling for. See my dad was a hardcore Harry Gant fan, and of course wanted his daughter to follow in his footsteps, but I had my eye on someone else. I pointed out Jeff Gordon’s car and told my dad that I was pulling for him because his car was pretty. So, ever since that day, I have pulled for Jeff Gordon. I watch him race every Sunday afternoon. Everyone makes fun of me for pulling for him, but I don’t care. I have been a fan for a long time, and I am staying true to that. Below are a few pictures from races I have been to. The first two pictures are from Martinsville Speedway in Virgina. The first picture is actually a picture of Jeff Gordon, unfortunately its just his backside. The third picture is from a race I went to in Charlotte.
I love to scrapbook. I started scrapbooking when I was in eighth grade. I loved taking the pictures that I just had sitting around my house and display them in a unique way. I really fell in love with scrapbooking when I was in the eleventh grade. In my English class, we were required to make an ABC book. Each letter of the alphabet had to stand for something significant in our lives. I loved this assignment. It was so much fun! It is something that I will be able to keep forever and show my kids, grandkids, etc. I am so proud of that ABC book. Although I love to scrapbook, I have learned that it is a pretty expensive hobby to have. Cute stickers, colored pages, books, 3-D stickers, markers, etc. can get quite costly. I invested over three hundred dollars in my ABC book. Recently, I have been scrapbooking about my boyfriend and me. I scrapbook important things that have happened in our lives. I gave the scrapbook to him as our one year anniversary present, and have been adding to it over the past two years. We love sitting on the couch and looking through it. I plan to scrapbook my children’s lives as well, so they can share the joy of having their memories just a page away. Nothing bugs me more than when you are looking for certain pictures from a particular year or place, and you cannot locate them. I want to have all those memories in a safe and secure place so that I will always be able to locate the memories I have shared with the ones I love. Below are some pages from my ABC book.
Here is what I don’t like…
I really do not like June Bugs. As silly as it may sound, I am terrified of them. I do not know what it is about them that is so frightening to me, but anytime I see one I freak out and run inside. I really think it is the terrible noise they make when they fly near your ear. It reminds me of a bee, and I really do not like bees either. Last summer June Bugs were everywhere. There were more June bugs last year than I have ever seen before at my house. Anytime I was outside tanning or swimming in the pool, they were zooming right by my face. I even had a few run into me, which kind of hurts. They are so big and loud. I know they cannot sting or bite, but they really creep me out. Over the summer I learned a valuable tool for keeping them away from me. I observed that when they got wet, they couldn’t fly, so anytime one got near me, I sprayed it with the water hose. My dad thinks it is funny how afraid of them I am, and told me about when he was younger and tied strings to their feet and let them fly around. You couldn’t pay me to catch one of those things and tie a string around its legs. I have no desire to ever touch, see, or hear a June bug ever again
.
EWWWW…..
I don’t like liars. Not everyone who lies is a bad person; they have faults like each one of us. I’m not talking about people who fib or tell little white lies. I am talking about the people who lie about big things. I have been lied to countless times by people whom I really trusted. Once someone lies to you, you lose their trust. It is near-to-impossible to trust someone who has betrayed your trust. They say “Once a liar, always a liar”. For some, that saying does apply, but I do not feel everyone should be labeled as such. I think liars can become non-liars, but it is really hard to regain the trust of people they have hurt and lied to in the past. I do not like liars because I feel when you lie to someone, you are hiding something of great importance. Nobody wins when someone lies; not even the liar who might get away with it. If you lie once, you will have to lie again to cover up the lie before that and so on. It’s simple: Don’t Lie.

I don’t like tomatoes. I have tried to eat tomatoes every way possible. I’ve tried putting sugar on them. I’ve tried eating them on bread with mayonnaise. I’ve tried putting sugar, salt, and pepper on them. Each time I retry a tomato, it leaves a terrible taste on my tongue. I love ketchup though
. I like giving all food a try, and believe me, I have given tomatoes many chances to make me like them, but I just do not. I wish I did though, because I always here people say, “nothing is better than a fresh tomato sandwich on a hot summer day”. I’ve tried a fresh tomato sandwich on a hot sunny day, and I still wasn’t sold. Maybe one day I will feel differently about tomatoes. Maybe tomatoes are my coffee-gets better with age.

I don’t like people who think they are better than others. I like to be friends with everyone, and I feel like people who act better than others, are missing out on so many great friendships. What makes someone better than someone else? If you ask that same question to various individuals, you will get a variety of answers. Are you better because you are rich? pretty? skinny? drive a better car? We were all made by the same Man, and in His eyes no one person is better than another. We were all created EQUAL and equal we shall be.

This is how I act…
I have a very bubbly personality. I like to talk A LOT. I will talk to anyone. I love to ask questions. I feel like you can learn so much about someone when you just take the time to ask. I am a little shy when it comes to speaking publically. I get really nervous when I have to present something in front of a large group of people, but once its over, I always feel like I was anxious for no reason. I like to be around positive people. I do not like to associate with negative nancy’s
. I am very optimistic and always look for the good in a situation. I always think great things will come my way if I just put myself out there. I begin by trusting everyone, until you do something to lose my trust. I have often trusted people who have used that trust against me. I like to be in the know when it comes to Hollywood news. I watch E! Entertainment every night. I am a hard worker, which is probably one of my best characteristics. I am a very nosey person. My mom says my sister and I did not get that trait from her. I really like to be around funny people who keep me laughing. I love to laugh and love making people laugh. I consider myself a pretty entertaining person. I love to put smiles on the faces of the people I love.
This is how I look…
I will start with the basics: Tall, brown hair (which I change often), brown eyes that are as dark as a moonless night, tiny teeth, pointy nose, medium-build, small feet and hands, fat toes, “innie” belly button, and all the confidence I need to feel great about the way I look. I’m not perfect, and I have many flaws, all of which I am willing to admit and accept, because all these things make me who I am. Although I am comfortable in my own skin now, I have not always been that way. It took me a long time to realize how beautiful I am on the inside and out. Growing up I didn’t have much self-confidence. I had a very low self-esteem and opinion of myself. Growing up I would say I was an “ugly duckling”. In high school, people would tell me all the time that if anyone had changed the most, it was me. I know what they meant. My personality hadn’t changed, but my looks had. I would constantly tell my mom that when I turned 18, I was going to get a nose job and an ear job. I thought my nose was too long and pointy, and my ears stuck out way too far. Everyone said I was crazy, but when I looked in the mirror, that is what I saw. Luckily, before I had any plastic surgeries, I realized that God gave me a beautiful body and I should not focus on the things I dislike about myself, because God loves everything about me; afterall he was the One who construced my pointy nose
. I love my pointy nose now. It makes me who I am. I’ll say it again: I’m not perfect, no one is, but I know that I am who I am, and I am happy with the person I am and the way I look.

Megan,
I am so happy you did not have plastic surgery to “fix” your nose or any other part of your body. You can not fix something if it is not broken! You are so beautiful inside and out and I enjoyed reading your “about me” page.

Your future students will love your About Me page. You really have put alot into it! My uncle used to always tell us to go catch a June Bug so that he could tie a string around its leg and we could watch it fly. Your animal pictures are very cute!
